THE BEACH BOYS

The Beach Boys, one of America's greatest rock bands, return to central Illinois for one night only, Monday, December 15th, at the historic Virginia Theatre in downtown Champaign. Tickets go on sale at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 31st, at the Virginia Theatre Box Office (open 10:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Monday through Friday), by phone at 217-356-9063, or here www.thevirginia.org. Limit of ten (10) tickets per patron on the first day of sales.

Originally formed in the LA suburb of Hawthorne by brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine, The Beach Boys captured the charts in the 1960s with thirty-six Top 40 songs about the timeless pleasures of surfing, cars and romance. The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, have sold over 100 million records around the world, and are listed at Number 12 in Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Artists of All Time.

Their hit singles include "I Get Around", "Fun Fun Fun", "Surfin' USA", "Be True To Your School", "Little Surfer Girl", "Sloop John B", "Little Deuce Coupe", "Don't Worry Baby", "Wendy", "Help Me Rhonda", "Good Vibrations", "Barbara Ann", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "God Only Knows", "Caroline, No" and "Sail On Sailor".

In 1988, The Beach Boys had a number one song again with "Kokomo", their salute to a fictional island in the Caribbean, which has been adopted as the theme song by the Hosier State community of Kokomo, Indiana.

For this tour, lead singer, songwriter and band leader Mike Love is joined by longtime Beach Boy Bruce Johnston (who joined the group in 1964) on keyboard and vocals. [Dennis Wilson drowned in Los Angeles in 1983, Carl Wilson died of cancer in 1998, and Brian Wilson tours only rarely.] In addition to the Beach Boys catalog of over thirty classic hit singles, they will also perform several songs from their landmark 1964 album, "Beach Boys Christmas", including the hits "The Little Saint Nick" and "The Man With All The Toys".
